let's be us again

Tell me what I have to do tonight
'Cause I'd do anything to make it right
Let's be us again

I'm sorry for the way I lost my head
I don't know why I said the things I said
Let's be us again

Here I stand
With everything to lose
And all I know is I don't want to ever see the end
Baby please, I'm reaching out for you
Won't you open up your heart and let me come back in
Let's be us again

Oh us again

Look at me, I'm way past pride
Isn't there some way that we can try
To be us again
Even if it takes a while
I'll wait right here until I see that smile
That says we're us again

Here I stand
With everything to lose
And all I know is I don't want to ever see the end
Baby please, I'm reaching out for you
Won't you open up your heart and let me come back in
Let's be us

Baby baby what would I do
I can't imagine life without you

Here I stand
With everything to lose
And all I know is I don't want to ever see the end
Baby please, I'm reaching out for you
Won't you open up your heart and let me come back in

Oh, here I am
I'm reaching out for you
So won't you open up your heart and let me come back in
Let's be us again

Oh let's be us again

you were made for me to love

a relaxing 60s local song to lighten mood for today. i'm damn tired, now chatting with my classmates about current affairs on msn, and also thinking of her. well, what will i do next about her? my mind is blank currently. i feel that we haven't been talking as much as i want us to, fault on my part - i just don't know what to say when i see her. just too afraid to ask her if she feels the same way too.

it sucks to be able to jump into the sea or hang myself 22 metres high in the air yet i'm not able to engage in proper communication with the girl i love.

one more thing.. i decided to cut down on calling her old woman. i don't know if she really meant what she said, but i guess the first step to any relationship is always respecting each other.

i hope she'll agree to go out with me to celebrate her birthday.. i'll definitely make it special for her. will play my cards right.

Seas were made for fishes to swim
Skies were made birds to fly
But you were made for me to love, yes to love
I could never love another

Flowers were made for little girls to bing
Trees were made for birds to rest their wings
But you were made for me to love, yes to love
I could never love another

I never thought I'd fall in love
And with a girl as sweet as you
But now it's true, what can I say
Cause I, woh yeah, I love you so

So you were wondering why you're here
I'll let you know just once more
That you were made for me to love, yes to love
I could never love another

waiting...

..for 1pm so that i can get out of the house and to tanah merah mrt and to queenstown mrt and to school. been doing fine so far, with a load of new friends.

what happened the past few days? let me summarise in a few points in 10 minutes (it's 12.50pm) now.
- some really STUPID thing shamira told me about yesterday, which has me quited freaked out
- diego has a band which plays original
- mahmud is a breakdancer
- lent the transformers DVD to shahrul
- watched john q with shahrul and wei liong
- got attacked by ubin commando mosquitoes at bahru campsite
- didn't eat anything for nearly 18 hours at ATC until weiyi gave me a biscuit (lol)
- turned down 'a once-in-a-lifetime overseas survival camp' offer from 13-17 aug

..

- still waiting for the Allspark.

and all this while saving money for two important events in August - parents' 20th wedding anniversary and exactly a week later, old woman's birthday.

meh, talking about her birthday. the overseas survival camp was something i was really looking forward to. camp warden came up to me on saturday and this was what happened.

warden: 'you want to go to hong kong?'
me: 'yah sir, overseas trip ah?'
warden: 'actually its a survival camp, hq sending 4 people from NPCC.. '
me: 'oh, can lah actually, but when?'
warden: '13-17 august'
me: *oh shit* 'eh, 13-17 august ah.. i think cannot ah sir'

apparently, 13-17 august also happens to be my entire study week from school, means one week of holidays before the exams begin.

having been through several leadership camps and courses, and always going back with the idea of 'i have to grab all opportunities i can get', it seems unlikely that i would turn down something like this. but yeah, i did. opportunities are important, but life is about making the right choices too, and i chose not to go, because of her.

if anybody asks whether or not i regret not going for it, i'll tell them...

i'm pretty damn sure i made the right choice.

"now go Autobots.."

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

"...and retrieve the Allspark before Megatron gets his hands on it," were the words our leader Optimus Prime spoke to us before we played a final which would cement our status as a 'competition-winning band', and eventually result in the retrieval of the Allspark - which in this case, was a Gibson/Epiphone Les Paul which will be in our hands by the end of this week or the next.

130707
- the day of truth
- the day we, the unseen vacancies have been awaiting for.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

reached NYP a little after 4pm, which meant i was late. tuned the guitar i borrowed from uncle Roslan, then looked for a little corner with Ahmad to hide and practice the songs we were gonna play.

then came our turn for the soundcheck. no worries with the equipment cause they were all provided by O'lando, which means we knew all the settings to get the right sound we wanted. and it was really an advantage to us, cause we took a lesser time than the other bands to setup. well it does look professional if you setup quickly to play a show.

i still remember my settings for the Marshall AVT1000X 100w 1x2 3-channel Combo Amp with Digital FX which i am NO stranger to. Marshall IS the unseen vacancies' choice guitar amplifier.

so if you want my tone, its very simple.
i based it around Slash's distortion tone and a little bit of Ace Frehley's early KISS work.
so overall i have a very vintage late 70s - late 80s type of tone.

Channel: OD Two
Gain: 5.5
Volume: 7.5
Bass: 3
Middle: 5.5
Treble: 6.5
Master Volume: 8

i don't usually play with the DFX unless we have to play our original. this is the tone i play with now, when we get the Les Paul it's going to be different.

thanks to my favourite old woman for buying mineral water!! it tastes so much better than the newater they provided.

then the competition started. i can't remember the first band's name, though they were the only band other than us who had a lead vocalist who played an instrument. also can't remember what songs they were playing cause i was trying to tune sheikh's bass.

now the 2nd band who performed, leviathan, they eventually were the runners up. they were good! their guitarist also snagged the best guitarist title. they played one iron maiden song? and they also had a pretty tight performance of smoke on the water. one unique point about this band is that they had 3 guitarists, which explains the extra Crate amp down on the stage.

the 3rd band was arscenic atrocity, did i get the name right? they did an updated version of ben e king's stand by me, which sounded pretty okay, except that the vocals didn't really stand out that much, even in their original piece. the lead guitarist is damn good though.

then came our turn. only two bands shied away from heavy metal that night, and one of them was us. we were quick to leave an impression with our short set up time, and sheikh's usual 'preaching to the audience'. seriously that's our style. we'd preach to the audience and get them to join us. lol.

played first, a song slower than what has been played by the rest of the bands. yet another song titled stand by me, but this time the original artiste was oasis, and it's a totally different song.

i thought we were kinda dead while playing stand by me. cause it isn't supposed to be a song you'd dance to and jump all around rallying the audience along. the next song was different.

how often do you hear disco in a rock band competition? encompassing the previous one at suntec, this was our BEST EVER performance so far. i enjoyed playing i was made for lovin' you more than any other song i've played live. i found myself rocking and going crazier as each verse passed. the crowd seemed to scream louder and louder as sheikh went several notches up the vocal meter. he nailed paul stanley's falsetto note for note. EXCELLENT. as fadzri mentioned KISS songs always have an 'effect on people'.

i think this song will eventually become a regular feature in our live performances. it's probably the one which won us this competition.

bad obsession's (guest band) acoustic set was cool. that and KISS MTV unplugged makes me wanna play my own acoustic set sometime in the near future. yeah, every rose has it thorns!!
the best guest band in my opinion for that night.

the last participant band was called pe lesson heroes. damn it, they were really wearing pe attire to play. LOL. yeah, and they were also different from the rest. they played punk rock, and were damn good. no wonder they won 3rd place. the vocalist was a little too much though. lol. the drummer also won the best drummer award. no surprise as he was bloody fired up that night.

firebrands played before the results were announced. they were good, but a tad little noisy. the group that came with me didn't really like them that much. lol. they were all in it for us!!

then came the results. they announced the best guitarist and best drummer first - the lead guitarist of leviathan and drummer of pe lesson heroes. then they called all the bands onto the stage..and announced the 2nd runner up - pe lesson heroes. the 1st runner up - leviathan.

"and now.. the winner of bandzout 2007/2008...."

at that moment i thought we were definitely not going to win.

...............

"UNSEEN VACANCIES!!"

i thought my ears were playing tricks on me but fxxk! we won!! that moment we really felt like superstars. firebrands' guitarist was there to give out the prizes to the winning band - US!

then the audience demanded an encore, we played i was made for lovin' you again, and our original, need you to know, to slow things down.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

damn it. at that moment i felt i didn't waste all our supporters' time, especially her. cause we freaking won!! after that we took lots and lots of pictures before leaving nyp. totally regret not taking a picture with old woman!

unseen vacancies with shamira and weiyi!

thank u ALL, everyone who came. not surprisingly, our fanbase comes mainly from npcc. lol. the only non-npcc people who came were wj and adam. thanks dudes!

then we went to causeway point to send shamira off, and took 168 back to bedok. it was a long ride. it was pretty late and i reached interchange with old woman at around midnight. sent her home, and then walked all the way home myself.

glad that though it was late, everyone made it home safe and sound that night. except for shamira who disappeared for the next two days. haha!

oh yea, one last thing. changed my blog song to Bright! Our Future, the ending theme of Kamen Rider The First. although i hated this song initially, i've come to realise its beauty.

P.S. making the english words stand out doesn't mean i only understand them. you've got to understand the japanese lyrics to know the beauty of the song =P

Bright! our Future
(映画「仮面ライダーThe First」:主題歌)
作詞: ISSA
作曲: ISSA/YUKINARI

When you wish upon a star
All of your dreams come true
Will never give up again, I look up shooting star

Bright our Future

Bright our Future

輝けるこの世界を守るために立ち上がる
それぞれの悲しみを仮面に秘め
戦い続ける Take over Rider

抱きしめていたい 溢れるこの両手から
伝わるよ思いは どんな時でも
愛しあうために ボク達は生まれてきたんだ
もう迷わないと 誓える Bright our Future

君と二人 Bright our Future

When you wish upon a star
All of your dreams come true
Will never give up again, I look up shooting star

When you wish upon a star
Will never give up again…

"you're all i've ever wanted, always want you to be mine..."

listening to firehouse's when i look into your eyes now. still suffering, or rather, enjoying the withdrawal symptoms from yesterday's win. sitting here thinking of last night's events, and still waiting for the pictures and videos...

the nerdy side of me has ventured into wikipedia to read some articles..well i can say i've learnt a lot about the world through wikipedia..just imagine me reading about the MONGOLIAN national football team this afternoon and how their worst defeat so far was 0-15 against uzbekistan in 1979, and how communist beliefs affected the development of mongolia's very first rock band.

what made me search about uzbekistan's national football team was the fact that they thrashed our northern neighbours 5-0 earlier today, completely humiliating them after their 5-1 defeat against china in their first match. seriously are these the same guys we fought to a penalty shootout too? syamsuri wasn't the keeper for today though. thiru played but was surprisingly quiet. i guess he was stopped by their defence.

some articles i read today were:
1. uzbekistan national football team
2. kazakhstan national football team
3. mongolian national football team
4. mongolia
5. transportation in mongolia
6. list of 2007/2008 transfers in la liga
7. out of body experience - spurred on by that thread from hardwarezone... i believe two such incidents happened to me on the train before...
8. lucid dreaming
9. near death experience
10. false awakenings
11. asian football confederation
12. asian cup 2007
13. firehouse
14. gibson les paul
wikipedia is definitely the website i frequent the most. partially cause i like to know everything - how things work, what causes things to happen, what happened in the past. wikipedia answers nearly every question i'd want to ask, ranging from football even if i wasn't good at school subjects, somebody once commented that my general knowledge is pretty excellent for an 18 year old.

thank MR. JIMMY WALES for the excellent spark in 2000 he had to create an online encyclopaedia.. and while i'm typing this some f**ker is blasting techno from his f**king boombox in his f**king car. i would be bored to death if not for wikipedia.

ok, enough with wikipedia.. hahaha..also putting some thought into the most important event for the next month (the second being my exams at the end of next month...)

today's 15 july. exactly 1 month before her day. 31 days to be exact. and damn it, i still haven't started saving money to buy her gift, which i've been planning since late may. haiz, been paying for a lot of shit recently. going to return huang's $55 on wednesday, and need to pay $13 for the area tee at ATC. once i'm done with all that BS, it'll be late July. i guess i will be starving myself for the next few weeks just to save enough money for a gift.

i really hate using adult ezlink. sure, the beep is cool, but it kills you faster than an adult farecard would have had 10 years ago.

speaking of ATC, it's end of the week, but i'm still not sure if i wanna go for ATC or screw it and play the gig on the 22nd. suddenly i don't feel any obligations for the area anymore. don't ask me why. there's a difference between duty and obligation. i can choose to do a duty, but i cannot choose not to perform an obligation.

to keep myself from stress and going crazy, at any point of time i can only have 6 constant obligations, which are:
1. family
2. her
3. unseen vacancies and our music
4. btss npcc
5. school
6. atf

for me, i guess atf has replaced area 10.

one thing i've realised. money is always a constant bother in my life. i either have too much money, or i'm freaking short of money, which for most of the part i'm the latter.

it took me a lot of courage to say those three things.. and finally those three words yesterday night, at 0014 on 140707.. i've been wanting to say it to her for so long, yet i'm quite disappointed in myself for doing it the way i initially planned it to be.

i guess i really suck at such things, and now i still don't know how to follow up. it's going to take more than just courage to make the next move..how will i go about doing it? hmmm...

and if she's reading this....i wanna see you SMILE more often!!
your smile is my motivation
:)

and i realised that the song i'll never break your heart just came up on the playlist. takes me back to the time when i was a huge backstreet boys fan.. i bought all their CDs and probably still have them now! their songs still sound pretty cool for late night pop treats. just a classic off their self-titled debut album.. when will there be a debut album to call my own...? hahaha...

i'll never break your heart, i'll never make you cry
(oh just give me a chance to show me how much i love you)
i'd rather die than live without you (i'll give you the world)
i'll give you all of me honey that's no lie (oh i miss you i want you i need you)

my next post will be the bandzout diary. look out for it.

music + thoughts

sitting here doing nothing after finally rewatching Kamen Rider The First. listening to some romantic pieces from the Ultraman Tiga soundtrack. i have it in bits and pieces, which is a pity cause it's a good soundtrack, and highly sought after too by collectors like me. i still can't find it though. have considered buying but i just don't have 70 bucks.

just waiting till 6.15pm and i will get my ass out of the house and over to olando at upp thomson for our final jam before this friday's final.

the track that's playing now (i can't upload it due to some stupid problems with imeem now) wells up a whole lotta emotions in me. first, it reminds me of Daigo and Rena's love in the Ultraman Tiga (obviously this comes to mind first, cause this is THEIR theme from the show). secondly, it makes me think of old woman, and thirdly, my entire love for Tokusatsu.

will elaborate more on each of the 3 points when i'm back later. and as for now....WINNING ELEVEN!!!!!

shandi

"Shandi" is a song by the American hardrock band Kiss. Released on their 1980 album Unmasked, the song would prove to be a big hit in Australia where it reached #10 on the Australian charts. (number 5 on the Kent Music Report charts in Australia) The song would prove to be a hit in other countries as well, making the Top Ten in three other countries.

Written by vocalist/guitarist Paul Stanley and producer Vini Poncia, the song title was inspired by the Bruce Springsteen song "4th of July, Asbury Park (Sandy)".

"Shandi" was the only song from the band's '80s output to be performed live during Kiss' reunion tour in 1996. It was performed solo by Paul Stanley on guitar while the band was touring in Australia and New Zealand. The song was also played by Kiss with the Melbourne Symphony Ensemble for the Kiss Symphony: Alive IV performance and subsequent album in 2003.

I just can't pretend no more, I keep runnin' out of lies
Lovin' you is killin' me inside
Everytime I find the words to end it, something in your eyes won't let it

Shandi, tonight must last us forever, forever we say goodnight and go home
But you know me very well, and I know you, you can't tell me goodnight (say goodnight)

We been holding on so tight, we're afraid to let it go
Shake it loose, we both could use the ride
Here's another mess I got myself in, and when you touch me you ain't helpin'

Shandi, tonight must last us forever, forever we say goodnight and go home
But you know me very well, and I know you, you can't tell me goodnight (say goodnight)
say goodnight when we should say goodbye (say goodbye)

(Shandi, Shandi) Tonight must last us forever and ever
Forever we say goodnight and go home
Shandi, Shandi, tonight must last us forever

6 more days

it's 6 more days to the finals yet we have yet to decide on when to have our final session. it's definitely going to be quite a serious one. i have yet to start analysing the past jam's recordings to note the mistakes. sadly the recordings from the past jam were lacking bass + sheikh's vocals.

i wonder who will be going on Friday. need to know by Monday so i can tell erny and she can help with reserving some tix.

and speaking of ERNY, i'm happy for her for she has nearly settled the daredevil tees' payment to the supplier. now we need to start chasing those cadets who have not paid up.

thursday's NP was great. it was like all-in-one. drills, campcraft and games all in that little 3-and-a-half hour of training. was a little screwed up with the shirt money but her presence really made a big difference in my overall attitude that day. i'm so glad to know that it isn't what i thought it'd be like.

i really hope this is it. there's been a lot of shit happening in my life the past few years and i hope 2007 is the turning point. so far everything has been going...quite, well. good luck to me.

some personality s*** from JY

went for MOE interview earlier this morning at btss. spent the entire day at btss, counting badges and listening to music inside np room, till 2pm when shamira, weiyi and wan chin came and started viewing my gallery pictures on my laptop. went for lunch at mac later.

later in the evening went to jam with the lads. unfortunately sheikh couldn't make it so we had to play without a vocalist and bassist for today. jammed for an hour before the usual roundup at prata house.

saw this on JY's blog..so decided to post here....lol

You May Be a Bit Antisocial...

Antisocial? That may be a bit of an understatement.
You think rules are meant to be broken - and with gusto!
Having no fear, you don't even think about consequences.
But people love you anyway... you've got a boatload of charm.

You Sometimes Hold a Grudge

You aren't exactly vengeful, but you're not going to forget when someone wrongs you.
And while you'll forgive the small things, you don't hand out too many second chances to people who really screw up.

Your Life Is Worth...

$880,500

You Are 89% Real

There's hardly a person on this earth more real than you are.
You have no problem showing people who you are, flaws and all.
For you, there couldn't be any other way. Because it's way too stressful to live an inauthentic life.
You're very comfortable with yourself. And because of this, you're able to live an exciting, interesting, and challenging life.

You Are Somewhat Mature

You definitely act like an adult sometimes, but a big part of you is still a kid at heart.
While your immature side is definitely fun, you're going to have to grow up sooner or later.

You Are Scary

You even scare scary people sometimes!

You Are The Hanging Man

You represent the seeking of enlightenment and spiritual clarity.
You tend to confuse others, but your oddities seem deeply satisfying.
Self sacrifice is easy for you, especially if it makes you a better person in the end.
You are the type of person who is very in touch with your soul and inner spirit.

Your fortune:

Right now is a good time for reflection and meditation.
You should stop resisting the problems in your life, and let yourself be vulnerable to them.
You may need to sacrifice something important to you to move ahead in your life.
Accept your destiny with courage, and learn to let go of what you think you need.

when the children cry

this is a touching song about children affected by war, by White Lion, a hair metal band of the 80s.

little child
dry your crying eyes
how can I explain
the fear you feel inside
cause you were born
into this evil world
where man is killing man
but no one knows just why
what have we become
just look what we have done
all that we destroyed
you must build again

when the children cry
let them know we tried
cause when the children sing
then the new world begins

little child
you must show the way
to a better day
for all the young
cause you were born
for all the world to see
that we all can live
with love and peace
no more presidents
and all the wars will end
one united world
under god

when the children cry
let them know we tried
cause when the children sing
then the new world begins

what "have we" become
just look what we have done
all that we destroyed
you must build again
no more presidents
and all the wars will end
one united world
under god

when the children cry
let them know we tried
when the children fight
let them know it ain't right
when the children pray
let them know the way
cause when the children sing
then the new world begins

kallang stadium - the field of dreams

went for a jam today. had a great time playing our own song, and the two songs we'll be playing for the finals of bandzout - stand by me by oasis, and i was made for loving you by KISS.

though the highlight of this post will definitely be about our National Stadium. I wrote it last night at posted it at tA. here's an extended version with a paragraph I just added...

30 June 2007

I am proud to sing my National Anthem, during National Day and while saluting the flag in uniform. Today, as I prepared to watch the final game played at the National Stadium in Kallang, it took the meaning of the word 'pride' to a whole new level.

The National Stadium has been officially closed by President S.R. Nathan, with Singapore being defeated 3-0 by Australia, who had qualified for the 2006 FIFA World Cup. It has served Singapore sports well for 34 years.

2001

The first time I ever stepped into this stadium was in 2001, when I watched Singapore play against Manchester United. We lost by a huge margin, 8-1 in fact, but we were happy that our team actually managed to score against a relatively star-studded United. Indra Sahdan actually managed to put one past Raimond van der Gouw. I was sitting right near the top of the South stand, nearer to the East Stand.

July 2002

The second time was 1 year later, in July 2002, when I was in Secondary 1. I stepped into this stadium with the rest of the level classes to watch the Singapore Youth Festival Opening Ceremony Parade. That year, the Guard-of-Honour for the parade was the National Police Cadet Corps, which I had just joined earlier in that year. That year was also special as it was the first SYFOC Parade to have a female Parade Commander.

Seeing the NPCC GOH decked in the No.1 ceremonial uniform for the first time, I really hoped I would get a chance to wear the No.1 uniform, and become the Parade Commander of an SYFOC parade. 4 years later, I wore No.1 for the very 1st time. And 1 year after that, I was Parade Commander, not for the SYF, but for my own school's Speech Day Parade.

That was probably the first ever time I thought of becoming a Cadet Inspector. And I am one now.

6 October 2006

The next time I would ever step into this stadium again would be in 2006, when Singapore played a 0-0 draw against China in the Asian Cup '07 qualifiers on 6th October. The match was full of tension as the Chinese national team had made derogatory remarks on our National Team and played a rough game.

27 January 2007

This day was the first time I witnessed a full 30 minutes of extra time, and a penalty shootout in which our National Team won, thanks to a fantastic save by Lionel Lewis. We were playing against Malaysia, and I was there, amidst the chants of "Butoh" and all the traditional jeering. It was the closest atmosphere I could get to the old Malaysia Cup games I used to watch on TV as a child. That save took us into the final of the ASEAN Football Championship - giving us a clear shot at defending our 2005 title.

31 January 2007

Yet another footballing spectacle happened in the 1st leg of the final, held a few days after the semi-final shootout win against Malaysia. The Thai team protested against a penalty decision and staged a walkout. They came back 15 minutes later and we eventually won the 1st leg 2-1. A few days later, Singapore managed to draw with Thailand 1-1 in the 2nd leg, and the ASEAN Cup was ours, yet again.

30 June 2007

Back to 30 June 2007, almost 5 months after the very last competitive game was played here, we stood, watched and cheered on as our National Team played their hearts out for the very last time in this stadium.

Today, we might have lost. But we know we played very well tonight. We created lots of chances and made several good plays down the pitch, yet failed to convert them, thus learning a huge lesson in football - nothing will help us win if we don't score goals.

Today, we also witnessed the monumental closing ceremony to a place that has united Singaporeans of all ages, all races and all walks of life.

There might have been events that took place right here, before I was born, when I was still a child, events I have never heard of, but there are events that took place right there that I have been a part of - the ASEAN Cup-winning campaign this year, 2007.

It will be the last time the Kallang Roar will be ever heard in this facility. And I was there.
